AED/CPR

 

AED

 

Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) are two lifesaving procedures used in cases of emergency. Many CVSD staff and faculty are certified in AED/CPR use taught by the CV school nurses and FCS teacher.

AED Building Location

Conestoga Valley High School: Outside the nurse’s office, Witmer Annex

Gerald Huesken Middle School: Lobby, main hallway, outside of gymnasium/cafeteria

Brownstown Elementary School: Main Lobby near nurse’s office, Outside of gymnasium

Fritz Elementary School: Outside of gymnasium, Lobby outside of cafeteria

Leola Elementary School:  Outside of gym and on the wall outside of nurse's office entrance door

Smoketown Elementary School: On wall across from the entrance to the gym and at the bottom of steps leading to second floor outside of library

District Office: Receptionist Desk

Service Center:  Wall of the offices within the maintenance shop near the soda machine

Of note, the athletic trainers are also equipped with an AED.

The Chain of Survival

  • EARLY Access (Notice someone needs help and act)
  • EARLY CPR (Start chest compressions)
  • EARLY Defibrillation (You, Get the AED)
  • EARLY Advanced Care (You, Call 911)

If no circulation, provide chest compressions

Find the center of the chest (using the nipple line). Place the heel of one hand on the sternum with the other hand on top; provide 30 compressions at least 2 inches deep.

Find the center of the chest (using the nipple line). Use 1 or 2 hands providing 30 compressions about 2 inches deep.

Place index finger on sternum at nipple line. Using next two fingers, provide 30 compressions 1.5 inches deep.

AED Use

Turn the power on (or open the case)

Use AED as soon as it arrives

Use AED after 5 sets of 30 compressions and 2 breaths

Not recommended for use on infants under one year of age

Attach pad to the victim's bare chest
