Academics
CVHS offers a comprehensive core and elective secondary curriculum in alignment with the PA Core Standards and national subject area standards. Courses are offered in traditional classrooms, blended and fully online in marking period, semester and full-year durations.Areas of Study
CV offers Advanced Placement courses in nine subjects, dual enrollment opportunities, 14 technology education subject areas, six levels of traditional world languages and extensive programs in the visual and performing arts. A variety of lab-based subjects are available in computer science, business, finance, and family and consumer science. Sustaining high rates of literacy and a mastery of communication skills are central components of the English Language Arts (ELA) curriculum. CVHS science offers students extensive field experiences and focuses on the use of advanced scientific instrumentation to conduct research. Curriculum scope and sequence in the math and social studies departments include core, elective and advanced studies. The high school’s physical education/health program stresses lifelong fitness and wellness, and includes a state-of-the-art fitness center. The CVHS gifted program features experiences such as Mock Trial and the ability to take advanced, college-level coursework at highly competitive universities. CVHS also participates in the Lancaster County CTC program, which is a recognized state leader in technical/vocational education for juniors and seniors.
Academic Growth
CVHS stresses academic growth for all learners and is a recognized leader in student growth. Courses at CVHS are leveled and range from general to college-level course work. The high school’s RtII (Response to Intervention and Instruction) Center provides students with targeted interventions, instructional and behavioral support as well as progress monitoring. Students with special needs have academic support time built into their schedule, and co-teaching sections are offered in all core subject areas.1:1 Learning Technology
All CVHS students receive a laptop computer with access to digital learning tools for use during the entire school year. Additionally, all core CV classrooms are equipped with LCD projectors, interactive whiteboards and classroom performance systems. The school uses extensive educational software to stress Web 2.0 technologies and 21st century skills. The entire school offers WiFi Internet access, and many areas of study utilize digital texts and virtual coursework.Career & college readiness
Students are guided through the high school curriculum using a mass customization approach and alignment with the Pennsylvania Career Education and Work Standards. Through the scheduling process, counselors help students match interests, aptitudes and skills with appropriate coursework. All freshman are required to take the Career Education course, and each student receives an account on Career Cruising, an interactive program that helps students explore career options and plan future education and training. The counseling office supports students as they prepare for post-secondary choices including college study, technical training, military service and the workforce.Athletics
CVHS is home to 27 varsity sports teams, including many with junior varsity offerings. The CV Athletic Department promotes a character education program called Pursuing Victory With Honor, based on six pillars of character: trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, caring, fairness and citizenship. CV student-athletes are guided to maximize their potential, develop leadership and higher-order thinking skills, foster a positive school environment, hold themselves and their teammates accountable, and display good sportsmanship. CV has produced more than 50 All-State student-athletes and 16 PIAA state champions.Extracurricular Programs
The high school’s club program includes more than 30 student organizations, including student council, an award-winning Technology Student Association (TSA) chapter and a highly-active SADD organization. Extracurricular drama and musical stage productions highlight the high school’s fall and spring semesters. Music students participate in programs including competition marching band, jazz band, indoor color guard, National Science Honor Society, and Tri-M Music Honor Society.Facilities
CVHS is outfitted with classrooms specially designed for art, business and computer technology. Students have access to modern scientific laboratories with digital microscopes and an infrared spectrophotometer, a digital music lab, a TV production studio, a 3D printer and a plasma cutter. The high school stadium includes an all-purpose synthetic turf field and professional-grade sound system. The fitness center is open after school each day to assist in the training needs of individual students, staff and all extracurricular programs. Rill Gym is one of the area’s premier gymnasiums with a capacity of over 2,000, three full-size courts and modern bleacher facilities. The school also includes the Allen Uyeda Wrestling Gymnasium, a lighted marching band field and an indoor rifle range.
Positive School Culture
CVHS advances positive school culture by maintaining a professional commitment to high student achievement, celebrating student accomplishments and supporting expected behaviors through character education and restorative disciplinary practices. In addition, a variety of traditional and creative events occur throughout the school year including Homecoming, holiday festivities and more. The CVHS TV Studio produces a daily show called “CV Today” that includes student spotlights, special segments on school initiatives and promotions of special events.
CV Mentors
Staff and students support one another at CV! The CV Mentors program pairs staff members with students to set goals, monitor grades and tackle life issues as they arise throughout high school. LINK Crew is a team of juniors and seniors who mentor freshmen and support their transition to high school. The BUCKS Connect program builds relationships between students with special needs and regular education students.
