  • Gerald G. Huesken Middle School enforces an "Away for the Day" policy in which students are asked to put their cell phones away during school hours.


    And research supports this policy. When students do not have the freedom to access their phones during school hours, they are more engaged socially and academically. See below for more data. 

  • 6.4% 16 year-old students saw their test scores increase by 6.4% after schools banned phones
  • 10.6% Percent lower test scores among students regularly interrupted by text messages
  • 35% Teenagers in the United States who spend three hours or more a day on electronic devices are at 35% higher risk of suicide than those who spend less than one hour on them.
