Revised Middle School Opening Plan
At tonight’s (Aug. 15) board meeting, Dr. Zuilkoski announced a one-day shift to the middle school’s opening plan. Below, highlighted in red, are the changes that were made to the initial schedule that was announced earlier this month. Of note, the first day all students will be in the new middle school will now be Sept. 6.
Dr. Metzinger, GGHMS principal, will provide additional communication to all middle school families in her Friday newsletter.
- August 18:
- iPad distribution at the OLD middle school from 9 a.m. - 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. - 4 p.m.
- August 19
- iPad distribution at the OLD middle school from 1 p.m. - 3 p.m.
- August 22
- iPad distribution at the OLD middle school from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m.
- August 24th- Sept. 1st
- ALL Students will be working virtually through Schoology with synchronous and asynchronous learning from Aug. 24-26 and on Aug. 29. Specific learning expectations and login information will be provided in next week’s newsletter.
From Aug. 30 - Sept. 1, grade levels will each have one day designated for in-person orientation (see day-by-day breakdown below). The two grades NOT in orientation will remain virtual.
Dr. Metzinger will be sharing specific learning expectations for those days; activities during these days will be based on community and building expectations, and learning to navigate Schoology. - August 30th
- 6th Grade In-Person Orientation Day at the new building. 6th grade will begin in the old middle school; students will start at the old middle school so that they can take the bus to the new middle school, learn bus safety, and arrival expectations. Seventh and eighth grade students will be at home participating virtually.
- August 31st
- 7th Grade In-Person Orientation Day at the new building. 7th grade students will begin the day in the old middle school; students will start at the old middle school so that they can take the bus to the new middle school, learn bus safety, and arrival expectations. Sixth and eighth grade students will be at home participating virtually.
- Sept. 1st
- 8th Grade In-Person Orientation Day at the new building. 8th grade students will come to school, while 6th and 7th grade students will be at home participating virtually.
- September 6th
- All students in grades 6-8 will be in-person at the new building starting Tuesday, Sept. 6.
In addition, the middle school will host three Cruise the Halls nights:
- August 29th
- 6th grade Cruise the Halls Night. 6th Grade students and families are invited to come and cruise the halls of the new middle school from 6-7:30 p.m.
- August 30th
- 7th grade Cruise the Halls Night. 7th Grade students and families are invited to come and cruise the halls of the new middle school from 6-7:30 p.m.
- August 31st
- 8th grade Cruise the Halls Night. 8th Grade students and families are invited to come and cruise the halls of the new middle school from 6-7:30 p.m.
